10-month, full-time position.
Job Description: Provide assistance to students with instruction under the supervision of a certified teacher. Areas requiring supervised assistance may include, though not necessarily limited to, classrooms, laboratories, washrooms, playgrounds, before and after school supervision, loading and unloading of students from buses/motor vehicles, gymnasiums, libraries, hallways and other educational settings as determined by the classroom teacher and/or principal.
Primary responsibilities:
- Assists with the supervision and instruction of students, as directed;
- Assists the teacher in all aspects of the daily program;
- Implements strategies for managing student behavior as directed which may include the restraining of a student;
- Implements strategies for individual students as directed by teacher, speech and language pathologists, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, vision, hearing, assistive technology facilitators.
Requirements:
- Meet State requirements - Illinois Paraprofessional Approval or Illinois Teaching Certificate.
- Ability to work with people tactfully and courteously, ability and desire to assist students and teachers, ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies, ability to work collaboratively, conscientious about attendance and punctuality, know or willingness to learn technology required for students, know or willingness to learn to use appropriate equipment, ability to respect and maintain confidential student/family information.
