Job Description:  Teach techniques of music expression. Develop knowledge and skills in listening to and understanding music.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Increase the sensitivity of all children to the concept of music as an art.
  • Teach techniques of music expression.
  • Discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music.
  • Develop knowledge and skills in listening to and understanding music.
  • Teach skills in the appreciation, expression, and the organization of music.
  • Utilize course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Endeavor to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
  • Control the storage and use of school-owned property.
  • Make minor adjustments and request repairs to instruments as required.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class periods and rehearsals.
  • Evaluate each pupil's musical growth and performance.
  • Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.
  • Evaluate and requisition books, musical instruments, and instructional aids.
  • Maintain required inventory records.
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
  • Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop a method of evaluation in conformance with district guidelines.

Requirements: Bachelor in Music Education; Minimum 18 semester hours in music education; Illinois State Teaching Lincense; Displays adequate piano skills and knowledge of classroom instruments.

 

Salary:  SEA Salary Schedule
