Job Description: Substitute teachers are employed on a day-to-day basis and are at-will employees of the District. The District may remove a substitute teacher's name from its list of eligible substitutes at any time without prior notice. Moreover, substitute teachers may be removed from an assignment at any time if they are not performing to the District's satisfaction. Enable each child to pursue his/her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the teacher.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Report to the principal upon arrival fifteen minutes before the official school opening.
- Review with the principal, team leader, or department chairperson all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Assume responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
- Write a note about work completed at the end of each teaching day, and leave it for the regular classroom teacher.
- Report to the building principal at the conclusion of the teaching day, and verifies whether or not his/her services will be required on the next teaching day.
- Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which the substitute teacher is assigned.
- Teach the lessons outlined and described in the Teacher's Lesson Plan.
- Consult with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the lesson plans.
- Follow all policies, rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
Requirements:
- Must possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Must hold a Professional Educator License to teach in Illinois issued by the Illinois State Board of Education and registered for the current school year - forms for licensure are available on the state website.
